Welcome from the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Services (RIES) postgraduate research team.
We oversee and support the development of postgraduate research through the provision of the Researcher Development Programme, an overarching programme of webinars (RDP Online), planning tools, research conferences and events, and resource banks. We support all postgraduate research students at UWTSD in maximising your potential and succeeding in your chosen careers.
Doctoral College
From September 2021, postgraduate research training and support will be provided by the University’s new Doctoral College. This exciting development will see an enhanced suite of opportunities, resources and support to help you thrive in your studies. It will have a dedicated online platform designed to allow collaboration across research groups and interests as well as being your hub for resources and events. It will soon enter the BETA testing stage, so please check back here regularly for updates. The academic office and your supervisory team will also keep you up to date with developments.
The renewed programme will be announced shortly. This will build upon the existing UWTSD Researcher Development Programme, which includes
- Research training and development opportunities through online programmes
- campus-based seminars, workshops and events
- research conferences including the summer school and interdisciplinary conference
- student representation
- advice on and coordination of research funding
- support for researcher development opportunities
- a hub for information and guidance for all postgraduate students working towards a research degree and for staff in academic schools and faculties.

Current support and provision
During the Covid19 restrictions of 2020 and 2021, the on-campus programme of RDP events was disrupted and where possible the RDP programme was delivered to an online basis. You can find recordings of some of the events in the pages below.
Summer School 2021
We are pleased to announce that the annual Summer School will be held in September 2021. Following the success of the 2020 event, which saw more than 80 participants, this will be held in the new online format as well. Details will be announced shortly, and we look forward to inviting students from all our campuses in Lampeter, Carmarthen, Swansea, Cardiff, Aberystwyth, London and Birmingham, as well as our partner institutions, and of course from our many students who are based overseas.
In the meantime, you can view resources from the 2020 event.
