I am Deanna Bailey, a physical education teacher at St John’s Catholic Comprehensive School in Kent. I studied the BA (Hons) Physical Education programme at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David from 2015 to 2018. Travelling so far from my home town in Kent, I was slightly nervous about starting university, however I needn’t have been, as the friendly and supportive nature of the university made my three years fantastic!
I loved the fact that if I was struggling with any of my lectures, staff were there for me all the time. Also, not forgetting the support from Sian the receptionist who especially for me being away from home was so helpful with everything.
The course itself was far more than what I expected. Unlike most universities it was specific to just Physical Education and consisted of a mixture of practical and theory, which was a positive as so many students learn in different ways but also helped out as I was always one who achieved higher marks in the practical rather than the theory. The course also utilises its facilities such as Studio, Swimming Pool, Gym, Sports Hall, Lab and more. Your first year allows you to explore all of the subjects within Physical Education and then as you progress through the years you can then start to narrow your choices down to specific options for example I chose psychology over physiology.
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David truly helped me to become the teacher I am today.
