Role in the University

Lecturer for manufacturing systems and simulation.

Programme team leader for Wuhan Joint degree (China).

Key member of SMART digital accelerator — a Welsh government program to accelerate digital technology in industry.

Background

My career has been split between business and education.  In Education I have been a senior lecturer focussing on PLM-related subjects — engineering design, CAE, CAD and design management.  I am now focused on manufacturing systems and simulation.

My business career includes entrepreneurially starting or being involved in start-ups.  Two were successful, one a failure and with another, we are waiting to see.

Customers include a OEMs and major suppliers in the automotive industry.

Academic Interests

I have taught on numerous modules:

Automotive:

CAD, CAE, Engine design, aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, project and group project

Non-automotive:

Materials and manufacturing processes, group project, final year project, study skills.

I have also been programme director for Foundation level, and external examiner for the University of Hertfordshire.

Research Interests

Simulation. I am author of the Aliquis package, which is starting to be used to simulate manufacturing processes and systems within the department.

Expertise

General Engineering and Pedagogy. Specific expertise in PLM and discrete event simulation. I am also not a bad computer programmer and a linguist.
