My professional activity has been mainly developed in Spain. I worked as a technical and construction manager for more than 10 years for the construction of dwellings as well as large residential building blocks. I have been involved in the construction of more than 1,000 apartments, as well as other developments, such as a large 2-underground-floor car park with a public square on top and the development of multiple refurbishment projects for social housing buildings for the Valencian Housing Institute.
In 2002 I created my own company for architectural and construction management services with other 3 partners. We worked for different large construction companies in different activities: supervision of projects, construction management, tendering processes for public administration (mainly education and health buildings), aftersales, quality and environment management, etc.
I have been working as a Lecturer for nearly 15 years now. I started as a Part-time Lecturer at the Alicante University in 2001. In 2009 I became an Assistant Lecturer until 2014. During my post at Alicante University, I taught modules on construction materials, building quality, management and sustainability in building. I participated in different activities as a member of the Architectural Technology Department improving my skills and being introduced to research projects. I collaborated in the Havana Project (2002-2003) for restoration and participated in several Higher Education Teaching research projects between 2002 and 2013. In 2008 I started my PhD, developing the topic about life cycle assessment and ecological footprinting in the building industry in Spain; this was achieved in 2013. I also organised and taught different training courses at the Chartered Association of Architectural Technicians relating to construction and demolition waste management and building sustainability (2009-2013). In 2012 I started in the Climate KIC as a Pioneer into Practice, a programme for international exchanges of experts in Climate Change. I was in Bologna University collaborating in several projects for energy efficiency in buildings and carbon footprint in municipalities. During 2012 and 2013 Alicante University hosted other experts in a programme for campus energy efficiency under my supervision.
I joined UWTSD in January 2015. Apart from my activity as a Lecturer, in August 2015 I qualified as a BREEAM assessor. I am also making contacts with other international universities to increase the opportunities and experience for staff and students. At present, I am starting some research collaborations focused on my previous experience, as well as the possibility for PhD supervisions.

I started teaching construction materials and building quality. These areas became my expertise during the first years working as a Lecturer. My curiosity for sustainability led me to develop a deep knowledge about it applied to buildings, which I then began teaching in 2009. In 2012 I also started teaching about quality and environment management.
At UWTSD, the main teaching areas I am focused on are civil engineering technology, construction management and sustainable construction.

My main research focus is sustainable construction. I have developed one research project about fresh concrete recycling, and my PhD about life cycle assessment and ecological footprinting of the construction industry, both in Spain. I have also participated in other projects for education and sustainability, and developed some issues about construction and demolition waste management.
At present, I am starting with new research in Swansea. My main interest at this moment is about sustainable materials. Some proposals are about the reduction of life cycle impact of mortars and concrete, especially the use of waste materials within concrete production. I am also interested in the use of natural and organic materials for construction, analyzing characteristics and construction systems.
The use of testing procedures and technics such as material flow analysis, life cycle assessment of carbon footprint can be some possibilities for research.
Other research interests are about passive buildings, waste management and building refurbishment.
My professional background has given me a good grounding in all topics relating to construction processes on-site: construction systems and details, materials, quality, Health & Safety, management, etc. This experience helps me to provide a practical overview to students within my teaching.
I have collaborated with the Chartered Association of Architectural Technicians in Alicante about sustainability in building (and more specifically, construction and demolition waste management), which has led me to train other colleagues, write articles for technical journals and even act as a representative of the Association on several occasions.
