Who Are We?

The Chaplaincy at Carmarthen is here to support you throughout your studies. We hope that your time at university will be exciting and worthwhile, providing a fantastic platform for the future.

Chaplaincy

To get in touch, contact Mones Farah who is currently the contact for pastoral support.

What Is the Chaplaincy? We offer help in two specific ways:

The Chaplaincy Supports the Spiritual Life of the University

Through Chapel life, it provides regular opportunities for students and staff to:

  • Worship
  • Discover faith for the first time
  • Explore spirituality
  • Be part of a caring, growing community where everyone is valued

The Chaplaincy Offers Pastoral Care to All Members of the University

From time to time, we all need a listening ear and the help of someone who may be able to help us through difficulty. The Chaplain provides a confidential, bilingual ministry, available to all students and staff regardless of religious background and affiliation. More informally, those associated with Chapel life, support one another in many ways, often forming deep, lasting friendships.

  • The Chapel forms part of the Old College building with the entrance on the main corridor, directly opposite Y Cwad.

    • Worship is offered here daily from Monday to Friday. It is open throughout the day as a place of quiet in which to pray, meditate, or just be still.
    • The blessed sacrament is reserved here and there are original icons painted by Sr. Theresa Margaret CHN which can be helpful in leading us into prayer.
    • Here, you can light a candle as a sign of your prayer for someone or leave a request on the prayer board, knowing that someone else will continue to pray for your particular concern.

    The Chapel Lounge

This is the room that you pass through on your way into the Chapel: a place of hospitality and fellowship, laughter and fun, eating and drinking, study and growth. Feel free to chill out here between lectures on one of our comfy sofas, get motivated to work for peace and justice, or pick up an inspiring book.

  • Regular Services and Events

We are keen to ensure our worship reflects the languages of the campus as fully as possible. The regular pattern of worship in the Chapel (during term-time only) is as follows:

Evening prayer and alternating with Holy Communion Mondays 5.15pm.

  • Pilgrimage to Taizé

Taizé is a small village in Eastern France which, since the 1940s, has been home to a remarkable Christian community. Today young people from across the world and of many faith backgrounds visit for a week of prayer, study, and fun in a wonderful setting.

It must be experienced to be appreciated: a potentially life-changing event! We hope to have a Chaplaincy pilgrimage there; please contact the Chaplain for more details.

  • We have a collection of books in the Chapel Lounge which are available to borrow. Topics include biblical studies, theology, spirituality, liturgy, ethics and social justice.

  • St. David’s Day

To celebrate Wales’ patron saint, Dewi Sant (St. David), there will be a celebration service in the Chapel. A warm welcome to all.
