Engineering alumni to share expertise with students at UWTSD Conference
An Engineering Alumni Conference and Reunion will take place at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s (UWTSD) Swansea campus on February 10 to inspire and engage students by hearing first hand from UWTSD graduates about the opportunities within the industry.
The event at the University’s IQ building, which starts at 9.30am, will enable graduates to share their skills, expertise and experiences with students and there will also be Q&A sessions.
Abi Summerfield, senior lecturer said: “This is a great opportunity to hear the career progression that our graduates can achieve and how UWTSD has been imperative to these jobs within the industry.”
Alumni speakers will include:

Tiegen Lillicrap graduated with a first-class honours BEng degree in Motorsport Engineering from UWTSD in 2019. Now based in Cologne, she is working with Le Mans winning race team, Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe - overseeing the project planning and coordinating of multiple projects across a range of topics, most commonly focused on project relating to composite components and design.
Originally from Devon, Tiegen always had a keen interest in motorsport so studying this particular course at UWTSD in Swansea was a perfect way of combining her love for the sport whilst gaining an academic qualification.
“All my family are motorsport mad and as a result I’ve been into it since I was little,” said Tiegen.
“I’m also a qualified Motorsport UK scrutineer - working for the governing body of British Motorsport. So, it made perfect sense to get the qualifications needed to progress further into this industry,” she adds.
“And I’m so proud to be part of it. In my experience, motorsport is one of few places where people are treated as equal. You compete on a level playing field and the car does the talking!
Tiegen, who studied A Levels in Maths, Physics and French, said she enrolled at UWTSD because it has a fantastic reputation for motorsport.
“There were 21 students on our course, and we were a great and close team. Our tutor Tim Tudor was a fantastic support throughout. I would definitely recommend the course and would say to would-be students thinking about it – make sure you work hard, especially putting extra work in the second year, as it makes the third year easier. And Enjoy it.
“The placements are amazing, I got to spend 6 weeks at Historic Motorsport Southwest Ltd – allowing me to put into practice what I had learnt as well as a real insight into the work needed to succeed. Networking within the industry is also important. Get involved, get to know people in the industry.”
