Role in the University
Hazel began working as Co-ordinator for the Tir Glas project in May 2021. Since then, Canolfan Tir Glas has been officially launched and has secured Levelling Up funding.
Background
From working as a chef in London’s Dorchester Hotel to helping establish the Lampeter Food Festival, Hazel has pursued an active, rich professional life. A few highlights include:
- moving from rural Ceredigion to London at the age of sixteen to pursue a three-year full-time Professional Chef course
- working as a chef at the Tregenna Castle Hotel, St Ives, Cornwall
- helping establish and subsequently relocate the Lampeter Food Festival
- becoming an Independent Food Consultant and Events Organiser
- supporting the National Library of Wales as project manager for the People’s Collection programme, as a unit manager, and as Head of External Relations for the same organisation.
She has also worked for Cambrian Training, Prime Cymru (as a mentor), and Merched y Wawr.
After returning to Lampeter, Hazel took a BA in Welsh with UWTSD (then St David’s University). She has also studied Open University courses on Social Science, Health and Disease, and Social Welfare.
Hazel is a strong advocate of food sustainability, saying of her involvement in Tir Glas: “Being a part of this innovative project is a great honour. The Canolfan Tir Glas Project is a long-term project, and each element of the vision appeals to my interests in sustainability, none more so than food sustainability. I very much hope that the project will attract the support it deserves.”
