This event will be held in Welsh and English (with translation) at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, between 5.00 and 7.00pm on Thursday, 9 November.

The evening will be opened by the Librarian, Professor Pedr ap Llwyd; Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Professor Elwen Evans KC; and Professor Mary-Ann Constantine from CAWCS.

Price’s Discourse on the Love of Our Country, delivered on the 4th November 1789, sparked the Revolution Controversy and inspired responses from dozens of writers, including Edmund Burke, Tom Paine, Mary Wollstonecraft and Jac Glan-y-Gors. Join Mary Fairclough, Mary-Ann Constantine, Elizabeth Edwards and Rhys Kaminski-Jones for a lively presentation of the Pamphlet Wars.

The event will conclude with readings from Poems for Richard Price, (eds) Damian Walford Davies and Kevin Mills. A wine reception will follow, with a chance to see Benjamin West’s portrait of Richard Price.

Professor Elin Haf Gruffudd Jones, Director of CAWCS said, ‘We are very pleased to be working with the National Library of Wales as part of the Strategic Alliance between our institutions on this event to commemorate the birth of one of Wales’s most influential thinkers on the international stage.’

Professor Mary-Ann Constantine from CAWCS said, ‘We’re delighted to be celebrating this tercentenary event with the National Library of Wales.  Richard Price is a writer for troubled times - his thoughts on equality, democracy and justice inspired generations of thinkers and writers, and his words continue to resonate today.’

The Summers Room will be open to the public between 4 and 5pm on 9 November to view items from the Library’s collections relating to Richard Price and his times.
