Today (7 July), Dr Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan has received an Honorary Fellowship during the University’s summer graduation ceremonies.

Ceridwen Lloyd Morgan was brought up in Tregarth near Bangor and studied in Oxford, Poiters and Wales’ Universities. She worked as a manuscript curator in the National Library of Wales from 1981, and then as Head of Manuscripts and Visual Images at the Library until retiring. Ceridwen currently lives in Llanafan, Ceredigion.

Introducing Dr Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan to the audience was Professor Heather Williams, Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies (CAWCS). She said:

“It is a great privilege for me this morning to present Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan to accept an honorary fellowship.

“She made an important scholarly contribution over a period of decades, and was Archivist and Head of Manuscripts and Visual Images, National Library of Wales until her retirement. Fluent in French, he was a visiting lecturer at the Universities of Rennes and Brest in Brittany.

“Her extensive experience of the field and her detailed knowledge are extremely valuable to the international and multilingual research team working on relations between Wales and Brittany since the French Revolution, evaluating, interpreting and digitizing documents.”

On receiving the award, Dr Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan, commented:

“I am truly grateful for the honour I’ve received today. On a personal note, I have to say how important it was for me to have examples of women in the family going into academia that encouraged me. As young women we need role models like this and I was very lucky to have members of my family – my mother, my aunt who were already in academic positions and who gave me tremendous support.

“Finally, I would like to pay tribute to Daniel Huws. You have already met him today. Daniel appointed me to the National Library. I learned so much from him and I would not be here today to receive this honour without his guidance. Daniel trained me as an archivist and set me on the road that has led me here. And I am eternally grateful to Daniel for that – for mentoring me and for his continued friendship. Thank you very much Daniel.”
