Carrie Jelfs, a dedicated and passionate care worker is today celebrating being awarded a BSc Health and Social Care degree from UWTSD Birmingham. Her journey has been marked by a wealth of practical experience and academic achievements.

Smiling, happy Carrie proudly wearing her cap and gown at today's graduation ceremony.

Carrie’s background is deeply rooted in caring for others, having started in the care sector at the age of 19. Her experience spans various sectors, including dementia care, children’s residential care, and supporting adults with behavioural and learning difficulties. Motivated by a profound passion for her work, Carrie chose to pursue the Health and Social Care course at UWTSD’s Birmingham campus to formalise her skills and knowledge.

She said: “I would 100% recommend this course to anyone that I know. I feel much more motivated and confident in achieving success in the future. I have lots of ideas in mind, and I have this course to thank for this!”

Throughout her studies, Carrie says she faced and overcame challenges, and found immense joy in meeting new friends and forming lasting bonds. Her commitment to social care extended beyond the classroom, involving voluntary work within her community, and completing online courses.

She added: “I have worked with adults with mental health issues disorders, and I have also worked with vulnerable children.  I am currently working with adults with behavioural issues and working with a professional team to support them every day to live a sustainable, long life.

“Alongside the practical part I have undertaken some voluntary work with families close to where I live. I started this course not so open minded but by level five, I gained lots of confidence in every aspect of my life which has been amazing, and I cannot wait to progress to study for my Master’s in September!”
