International Chinese Wellbeing Conference - Harmony at the Heart of Wellbeing: Qigong, Taiji and the Chinese Arts of Self-care

Harmony at the Heart of Wellbeing brings together academics, professional therapists and teachers, as well as lay practitioners of Chinese well-being practices from across the world.

The conference is a collaboration between the Confucius Institute and the Harmony Institute Health Initiative at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The two organisations share a common interest in exploring the important contribution of East Asian wellbeing practices to understanding health and human flourishing. The conference provides a platform for sharing and delving into the different schools of thought, practice, and tradition in taiji, qigong and Chinese self-care.

Among the keynote speakers are Prof. Zhang Wenchun of Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine. Jiangxi University is one of China’s leading research centres into Qi Theory – the fundamental principle of Chinese medicine and of therapeutic practices such as qigong and taiji. From the UK Alex Jacobs will explore how Chinese medicine, self-care practices and qigong are a potent combination for self-healing and empowerment. There will also be experts from the Confucius Institute’s Chinese partner Beijing Union University, and other leading practitioners and teachers from across the UK and Europe.

One day of talks and workshops are followed by a ‘Festival of Practice’ on the second day. This is open to all and provides a rare chance to sample a range of practices such as Shaolin Arts, Medical Qigong, Zhineng Qigong, Taiji Ball, Baduanjin, and much more.

To ensure that as many people as possible have access to conference, the conference is now available at a reduced delegate fee and is being delivered online only. Recordings of all the talks and workshops will be available after the conference for those who have booked.
