The Dream Salon, a live event curated by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, promises an evening of intellectual exploration and artistic revelation. Attendees will be part of an extraordinary experience where their recent dreams will take centre stage. One dream will be selected for live interpretation, discussed, and painted live onto pages extracted from Sigmund Freud’s seminal work, The Interpretation of Dreams.

The dream’s journey from the unconscious to visual form will be orchestrated by renowned artist Julia Lockheart, Professor at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art. Mark Blagrove, Professor of Psychology at Swansea University, will moderate the dream discussions, adding an academic perspective to the artistic endeavour.

Professor Julia Lockheart expresses her enthusiasm for this multidisciplinary venture, stating, “Dreams offer a unique canvas for artistic expression. Through this collaborative event, we aim to delve into the subconscious and bring forth a visual interpretation that transcends traditional boundaries. I’m sure most of us have witnessed ‘aha’ moments when dreamers see the links between their dreams and waking life.”

The Dream Salon is not just a spectacle but a process of unravelling the layers of the human psyche. Dr Rebekah Humphreys, organiser of the Philosophy conversations events, commented:

“This event is an embodiment of the fusion between science, art, and philosophy. It’s an opportunity to explore the profound connections between our dreams and waking life concerns.

“Once again, I’d like to thank the Royal Institute of Philosophy for their support which has given us the opportunity to arrange these talks at UWTSD. These conversations provide a unique opportunity to hear from experts from across the world. It provides staff, students, and members of our Lampeter, Carmarthen and Swansea communities with an opportunity to explore important topics through the insights of these renowned speakers.”

The event is generously funded by the Royal Institute of Philosophy as part of UWTSD’s Philosophy Conversations, a series aimed at engaging the public in philosophical discourse on contemporary topics.

The Dream Salon takes place from 19:00 to 21:00 on Wednesday, 17 January at Noah’s Yard, Swansea SA2 0PG.
