Summer 2023 will see the return of the Sports Summer Camp at The University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Five males cycling at Cynefin, the UWTSD Centre for Outdoor Adventure Education.

The Summer Camp will be held at the University’s Sports Centre on the Carmarthen Campus, and also at the Cynefin Centre for Outdoor Adventure Education in Johnstown.

The dates for this year’s Sports Summer Camp will be from Monday 31st July until Friday 18th August. The decision to re-establish this service was made to provide opportunities for the children in the local area to use and enjoy the University’s facilities, provide a safe space for the children to have care over the school holidays, and for UWTSD students to gain experience in a working environment within an area of work that interests them.

Activities will run from 9 am- 4 pm with an 8 am drop off & 4:30 pick up made available.

Organiser Bryn Jones from UWTSD said:

“Activities will be a range of sporting activities, pool activities, outdoor activities, and fun team games across the three weeks! We will provide a safe, fun, and happy environment for all children to enjoy themselves, learn new skills and make new friends, and we believe it is a great opportunity to keep fit and healthy during the school holidays. We are looking forward to seeing children enjoying the games and sports they love!”

A range of activities has been planned that will cater to a range of ages and interests, such as Forest School for 6-11 yr olds, a Wellbeing with Nature day for 13 – 17yr olds, Mountain Biking with 16 – 18 yr olds and Sports camp itself will be offering sessions in football, short tennis, cricket, frisbee, swimming and so much more for 6 - 11yr olds.

Event Organisers would like to invite and encourage families from Carmarthen town and local villages to support.

Lecturers and Students at UWTSD will be supporting and leading some of the sessions and this will help them also to gain some very valuable experience working bilingually with young children and teenagers in being active & having fun!

The University has prioritised to make the provision as accessible as possible for families. The price will be £20 a day or £10 for half a day. Packed lunch and drinks will be required.
