The Printmaking Department at UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art is hosting the Diptych Exhibition, an international collaboration project between Printmakers Sarah Hopkins from Swansea and Atif Khan from Pakistan.

In company with family members, Sarah Hopkins and Muhammad Atif Khan smile in front of their Diptych prints.

The collaboration has taken the form of a collection of 16 limited edition diptych prints. Throughout 2022, Sarah and Atif worked independently on a series of prints and exchanged them via courier for each other to complete.

Sarah said: “Working on top of each other’s images was a daunting prospect, but we both found such joy in the process and some of the results were quite unexpected. Each completed print tells its own story and is a unique combination of visual vocabulary with references drawn from our own cultures and heritage.”

She added: “It was a privilege to visit Atif in Pakistan earlier this year, and to attend the Diptych opening event at O Art Space Gallery, Lahore. It was also wonderful to host him in Swansea for the launch of the same exhibition at Studio Griffith.”

The project, designed by Sarah, is supported by Wales Arts International and the Arts Council of Wales. The collaborative exhibition is the first of a two-part project that UWTSD is excited to be involved with.

The next stage will involve a collaboration between UWTSD students and printmaking students in Pakistan.

The Diptych Exhibition is open weekdays, 9am - 5pm until Friday 3rd March at Stiwdio Griffith, Dynevor Campus, UWTSD.
