Harry Bolton, an ambitious student of BA Automotive and Transport Design, is celebrating the end of his third year and the beginning of an exciting year ahead as he prepares to start a paid internship with Roll Royce Motor Cars.

Harry, who hails from Surrey and previously studied Engineering, Product Design and Business at A-level, chose UWTSD for its small class sizes and personalised teaching and learning experience. He credits this individualised support with helping him build his connections and stand out to potential employers.

Harry has indeed impressed employers and stood out to luxury car manufacturer, Rolls Royce, who have offered him the opportunity to join them for a 13-month paid internship within the Bespoke Design team.

Through the University’s existing connections with the prestigious company – which has helped launch the careers of a number of our graduates – Rolls Royce approached the Automotive Design teaching staff looking for potential candidates to fill the internship.

The company’s internship programme is highly competitive, attracting the brightest and most talented students from around the world.

From the start, the selection process was challenging, and candidates went through several rounds, including a portfolio selection, a design task and an interview.

Harry emerged successfully through this selection process, and he will join fellow BA Automotive and Transport Design graduate, Alistair Barkley as well BA Surface Pattern and Textiles alumna, Rebecca Davies, who have successfully transitioned to full-time positions with Rolls Royce after completing their internships.

Former Automotive Design students, Matthew Danton and Simon Paul Haynes also hold positions within the company, making it something of a UWTSD reunion and is true testament to the quality of graduates from the University.

Harry will graduate next summer after completing his fourth year in industry.

“Through one-to-one support provided by the lecturers, the insider knowledge on how to gain connections in the industry and stand out when seeking your first job has been invaluable.”

His lecturer, Sergio Fontanarosa, Programme Director and Industry Placement Coordinator for BA Automotive and Transport Design said:

“We are extremely proud of Harry. This placement reflects his hard work, creativity and the rigorous training and coaching provided by the course.

“Harry will get exposure to all areas of Rolls Royce’s design studio, and with coaching from former students currently working there, we are confident he will make a significant contribution to the company and will continue to excel in his career.

“We are also grateful to Rolls Royce’s Bespoke Design team for yet another fantastic opportunity for our students, and we look forward to continuing this successful partnership.”
