Canolfan S4C Yr Egin shortlisted in the Careers Wales Valued Partner Awards

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin has been shortlisted in the Careers Wales Valued Partners Awards.

Yr Egin has been nominated in the ‘Best Promoter of Welsh in the Workplace’ category as a result of the work they do in providing careers support for pupils in local schools through the medium of Welsh, as well as showing its intention as a creative and digital hub to recognise the value of the Welsh language as a workplace skill and to take part in events promoting the importance of Welsh in the workplace.

This awards ceremony is an opportunity for Careers Wales to recognise and thank the businesses that have worked with them during the year in a special event. The awards are sponsored by the Minister for the Economy, Vaughan Gething, and will be held on November 22nd .

“Congratulations to Canolfan S4C Yr Egin for being shortlisted in the Valued Partner Awards 2023.

“Working with schools to provide valuable careers support helps to inspire and motivate a younger generation, the workforce of the future in Wales.

Yr Egin, home to over 16 companies, has held several open days with numerous schools in Carmarthenshire to provide an insight into what the creative industries has to offer and possible career pathways. One of those schools is Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Myrddin. Eirlys Thomas, Assistant Headteacher of the school said:

“We at Ysgol Bro Myrddin are very grateful for the extremely valuable experiences had by our Year 9 and Year 12 pupils on their visits to Yr Egin. A full array of activities had been arranged for them such as scripting and simultaneous translation as well as presentations by representatives from S4C, Afanti, and former pupils that are now part of the team at Yr Egin. It was an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the different types of careers that can be done through the medium of Welsh here in Carmarthen.”

The aim of the ceremony is to celebrate the work done by employers in helping schools and young people engage with the world of work. Partnerships between businesses and schools inspire and motivate young people. Valuable information and experiences related to work help young people to connect what they learn at school with the world of work.

One of the main aims of Yr Egin is to nurture future talent, and by holding events and promoting opportunities for young people it’s possible to raise awareness of the myriad of opportunities available in the creative industries, in Carmarthenshire and in Welsh.

“A heartfelt thanks to everyone we have collaborated with to gain this nomination, we have developed relationships with key partners such as Careers Wales, University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Widening Access Team, and creative and digital companies located here at Yr Egin all for the benefit of school children and to create a positive effect on the Welsh language.”
