Naomi Linahan already has a BA and master’s degree in Drama, now she can add a PCET qualification to that portfolio. The PGCE Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) is a professional teacher education course that will qualify you to teach in the post compulsory education and training sector.

Naomi, a Learning Coach at a Further Education college, wants to use her teaching skills to inspire the next generation.

The 23-year-old from Merthyr Tydfil said: “I absolutely love theatre and film, and I’m really passionate about how education can empower young people from working-class and marginalised backgrounds.

“I have a strong desire to share my knowledge and passion for theatre, education, and the arts with young people, and help shape the next generation. I’m also keen to progress within the field of education and work my way up to higher positions where I can contribute to curriculum development and educational policies.”

Naomi said she chose UWTSD because of its excellent reputation in the field of education, as well as its emphasis on practical teaching experience.

“I enjoyed the practical nature of the modules. I loved the hands-on approach, where we were encouraged to explore different techniques, practices, and ideas. The course allowed me to develop a range of skills which broadened my understanding of the industry,” she said.

“The course has been extremely valuable to me. It not only enhanced my teaching abilities, but also fostered my confidence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

“The lecturers at UWTSD were extremely supportive throughout the course, as they provided valuable guidance, constructive feedback, and mentorship.

“If you’re interested in enrolling in the same course that I studied, I would recommend immersing yourself in the practical aspects of the course and to take every opportunity that comes your way as these experiences will not only develop your skills, but also expand your network within the industry. Also, embrace feedback from lecturers and peers, as it’s crucial to honing your craft!”

UWTSD lecturer Katie Gardner said: “Naomi has worked hard throughout the year ensuring a high standard of work throughout. She has gained experience teaching in her old college and been a great role model for those students. As a result of her hard work and dedication to students on her placement she has secured a role in student support. It has been a delight teaching Naomi and seeing her achieve.”
