The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) is shortlisted for two awards at this year’s Institute of Hospitality IOH Annual Dinner and Awards. The 2024 awards shortlist captures talent from across the globe, within any hospitality segment and specialism, in SME and large hospitality organisations.

The University Tourism and Events Team has been shortlisted in the Best Educational Programme (Large Business) and the Talent Development Team of the Year 2024 (Large Business.) 

Jacqui Jones, Programme Manager of the International Travel, Tourism, Events and Festivals Management Portfolio at UWTSD said: “We’re thrilled and extremely proud to be shortlisted for two awards. This is outstanding global recognition for the Tourism and Events programmes and UWTSD, demonstrating the excellent educational and talent development opportunities we provide for our students.”

The students, from the University’s the International Travel and Tourism, and Events and International Festivals Management programmes, are previous IOH award winners. In June, last year, they were announced as The Best Education Programme at the Institute of Hospitality Global Awards.

They also won Best Student Event at the National Outdoor Events Awards (NOEA) in recognition of their outstanding efforts organising the ITT Future You Make A Splash Conference and Careers Fair in Swansea. 

Professor Wendy Dearing, Dean of UWTSD’s Institute of Management and Health said: “The University is delighted and proud to hear about the nominations, which recognise our staff and students’ hard work and achievements and reflect the success of the programmes.”

Dr Jayne Griffith Parry, Academic Director Hospitality and Tourism Management courses at UWTSD said: “Being nominated for the awards is important for students as it highlights exceptional skills, dedication, and performance in their field, making them more attractive to potential employers and increasing their chances of securing internships and job opportunities.”

Announcing the shortlist, Robert Richardson FIH MI, the Institute’s CEO said: “We have been inundated with entries this year and the quality has been incredible. The talent working in our global hospitality industry, alongside the initiatives that made the shortlist, are incredibly encouraging, inventive, and inspiring. These Awards always showcase some exceptional professionals and organisations from our amazing hospitality family, and this year is no different.”

The winners will be announced at the black-tie IoH Annual Dinner & Awards 2024 at the Honourable Artillery Company headquarters in London on June 17 2024.

Previous award winners have included Eugenio Pirri FIH, The Clink Charity, Crumbs, Galvin At Windows Restaurant & 10° Sky Bar, The Grand Brighton, Compass Group UK & Ireland, Adrian Ellis MI FIH, Irantha Duwage MIH, Phyllis Court Club and Concord Hotels.
