MA Musical Theatre and MA Perfformio students to perform 'Miracle'

MA Musical Theatre and MA Perfformio students at the Wales Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David are busy preparing for their performance of ‘Miracle’.

Lecturers Elen Bowman and Eilir Owen Griffiths came together to create the theatre review ‘Miracle’ which weaves together songs from the musicals and texts from contemporary plays. The show will be a presentation about love and what drives us to connect with each other and the magic of Christmas will be on display during the performance.

‘Miracle’ will be performed on 16th December at the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay. This is the students’ first public performance this year as a group. Eilir Owen Griffiths, Director of the Welsh Academy of Voice and Dramatic Arts, said:

“This production is an interesting, different project and full of curiosity. This performance will be a great opportunity for the students to demonstrate and apply the skills they have learnt from their singing, acting and dance modules during their first term on the course whilst working on a diverse project that is going to appeal to everyone’s taste.”

Cast member Nico James said:

“Taking part in this production has been such a creative journey, as we are curating the show ourselves and compiling repertoire for each person in the class it is a very insightful and vital part to understanding what goes into making a show. We have developed our skills in ensemble and duet singing, ensemble acting, partner and solo acting!

“This production will be very helpful for our studies as it will equip us and develop our skills for our performances later in the course as they are two significantly different genres and styles. I am looking forward to presenting our show to the public and hopefully inspire and send the audience away with a positive message of love and cheer for the festive season!”

Victoria Davis, another cast member, added:

“I have loved working on this production with such a talented group of people. It has been an enjoyable, collaborative process and everyone’s unique individual voice has been present throughout its creation. What has been especially rewarding is being able to discover for ourselves our own character’s journey throughout the show and how they all relate to one another in some way. There is a wide range of ensemble numbers and scenes, as well as solos, duets, and monologues, which have all helped to improve our abilities as musical theatre performers.

“This production is a great opportunity for us to showcase the skills that we have been developing in our course and we are very much looking forward to performing it in front of an audience. This is the perfect show for the Christmas season, as it explores all the different kinds of love and has a heartwarming and uplifting message.”

Lecturer Elen Bowman said:

“All the students have got to grips with the nature of storage and staging which is very salutary for MA students with their sights on specialising in the field. I think there will be enough in the show for everyone, humour, great singing and the mood of the festival pervasive and all in a lovely location in the bay.”

There will be two performances – at 6 and 8pm. There are limited tickets available, which can be booked from the Norwegian Church Arts Centre.
