Our Facilities

Our film and media courses on the Carmarthen campus support students to engage with the contemporary creative industries and develop a range of academic and production skills. By applying established industry techniques to immerging technologies and opportunities, graduating students will be at the cutting edge of the exciting industries around proactive content creation. 

Students will have opportunities to work on personal projects and with external organisations such as OM Digital Cameras, Panasonic Lumix, Shimoda, Boom Cymru, the National Trust, Avanti, Nikon, and DMM. 

There are many unique and exciting opportunities for students to engage with, for assessments and as extra-curricular career development. With Canolfan S4C Yr Egin on campus there are opportunities within the industry immediately available to students enabling graduates to leave with not only a unique degree, but a CV of industry experiences.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastlines, the environment is both stimulating and relaxing in equal measure. For anyone interested in developing their professional and academic skills in production these courses will help develop your passion and open new opportunities.

Our specialist Film & Media facilities include:

Students on our Adventure Filmmaking and Digital Media degrees in Carmarthen have access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities that will enhance your learning experience. These include our Samsung immersive screening room and Apple Mac Suite, equipped with large 4K monitors and Adobe Creative Cloud software, provide cutting-edge environments for creative work. 

Also available is  our green screen room, audio-visual post-production edit suite, and an array of audio-visual equipment, including cameras, microphones, gimbals, 360 cameras, underwater camera housing, GoPros, and VR headsets.

Our Location 

Based in a unique location our degrees benefit from beautiful coastal and mountainous landscapes. Regular expeditions and location workshops enable students to film and photograph nature and adventurous activities with the guidance of experienced practitioners.

Our location next to Wales’ national broadcaster S4C and the Yr Egin Media Centre offers invaluable industry connections. Students also have the opportunity to engage with the creative industries using advanced techniques and new technologies, collaborating with companies such as OM Digital Cameras and the National Trust. 

Our facilities also include the Cynefin Outdoor Education Centre, complete with a green hub, climbing wall, and adventure equipment. Studio spaces like Y Llwyfan, the green screen room, and the post-production edit suite support a diverse range of creative projects.

BA Adventure Filmmaking 

The Adventure Filmmaking programme is based in a unique location which benefits from beautiful coastal and mountainous landscapes. Regular expeditions and location workshops enable students to film and photograph nature and adventurous activities with the guidance of experienced practitioners.

BA Digital Media Production

Our Digital Media Production degrees share practical modules with Set Design and Production and Acting, including 3D modelling, graphics, directing, lighting and sound, allowing access to an array of workshops, theatre spaces, studios and rehearsal rooms.

Production

Production training happens on location and in our studios and computer labs. Students will have access to our state-of-the-art Samsung immersive screening room, as well an Apple Mac Suite with large 4K monitors and Adobe Creative Cloud software. There are also studio spaces such as Y Llwyfan, a Green Screen Room, Post-production Edit Suite, and screening facilities.

Cynefin Outdoor Education Centre

The University’s Cynefin Outdoor Education Centre includes a green hub, pump track, climbing wall, adventure equipment stores, and access to fields, natural habitats and landscapes.

Collaboration 

We collaborate on a number of events and work placement opportunities with the home of Wales national broadcaster S4C in our Yr Egin centre. Events such as the Adventure Film Festival, graduate showcase, and workshops with major camera brands allow students to connect with industry. There are also media production tenants offering a wealth of industry knowledge and experiences.
